Bali is a fabulous location, so much history, a must see for any travel enthusiast. Every day in Bali’s predawn darkness, hundreds of visitors begin the trek up the 1,700-meter summit of Mount Batur to watch the sun rise above the lush mosaic of mist-shrouded mountains and the caldera far below. This sacred active volcano lies in Kintamani District in Bali’s central highlands, about an hour’s drive from Ubud, and the hike to the summit to watch the sunrise has long graced the list of top things to do in Bali. The hike along the well-marked trails is relatively easy and usually takes about two to three hours. Guided treks typically include a picnic breakfast, with eggs cooked by the steam from the active volcano. On a clear day, the views are spectacular, stretching all the way across the Batur caldera; the surrounding mountain range; and beautiful Lake Batur, the island’s main source of irrigation water.
If Gili T is too busy for your tastes, you’ll feel much more at home on Gili Meno. The smallest of the three islands, Gili Meno attracts an older, more upmarket crowd. It’s the one you’ll want to spend the most time on if you’re on your honeymoon. The beaches are stunning (and more consistent than the other two islands) and there are some cool places to eat and drink. Again, there’s not much to do but that’s kind of the point. See more details at Boat to Gili Trawangan.
Besakih Temple (also called Pura Besakih) is the most sacred Hindu temple in Bali. An important place of pilgrimage for devotees, the magnificent temple sits on the slopes of the volcanic Mount Agung. Split between six terraced levels, the complex is made up of more than 20 individual, but associated, temples. A spiritual Hindu site for at least 2,000 years, it is widely believed that the area has been a holy place since the prehistoric period. There are many fascinating shrines throughout the stunning complex along with a wealth of interesting architecture. Some 70 religious festivals take place at the temple every year.
Tanjung Benoa is the place to come in Bali if you want to try water sports and you can find a range of different activities on offer. One of the most exciting however is strapping on a water jetpack which will let you fly up into the sky to a height of 10 meters and sessions usually last around 20 minutes. One of the big draws of going jet packing is the chance to take in the beauty of Bali from the air and even if you have never done anything like this before the dedicated instructors will teach you how to fly in a safe and controlled environment.
Gili Meno is the smallest of the three Gili Islands and a perfect setting for your desert-island fantasy with a ‘castaway’ atmosphere. Surrounded by white beaches and idyllic blue seas with colorful reefs and plenty of underwater life in all shapes, forms, and colors. Apart from being the smallest, Gili Meno is also the most traditional and quietest of the three Gili Islands, making it a popular destination for couples, honeymooners, divers and travelers who seek a more peaceful atmosphere.
